Why we built Jed

The story behind Jed and our approach to AI-supported mental wellness.

By Josh

Mental health support shouldn't feel clinical or inaccessible. That's the idea that led us to build Jed.

The problem we saw

Most people don't need therapy—they need someone to talk to. A sounding board for daily worries, a gentle nudge to stick with good habits, and occasional guidance when things get tough.

But traditional mental health resources have friction: scheduling appointments, high costs, and the stigma of "needing help." Meanwhile, generic wellness apps feel hollow—they don't know you.

What Jed aims to be

Jed is designed as a companion that grows with you. It remembers your context, tracks your progress, and adapts to how you're feeling on any given day.

We're not trying to replace therapists or counselors. For serious mental health concerns, professional support is essential. But for the everyday work of maintaining wellbeing—checking in on your mood, building better habits, reflecting on your day—Jed can be there when you need it.

Our approach

We focus on three things:

  1. Genuine conversations - Not scripted responses, but thoughtful dialogue that feels natural
  2. Privacy first - Your conversations are yours. We encrypt everything and never sell your data
  3. Practical tools - Mood tracking, goal setting, and insights that actually help you understand yourself better

What's next

We're still early. Jed will keep learning and improving based on how people use it and what they tell us they need.

If you're curious, give it a try. And if you have feedback, we'd love to hear it.
